I have read the other tutorial about house making on this wiki and I consider it too complicated for beginners, so I decided to make a new one.
In this tutorial you will learn how to build a basic house, without many details and texture it.
First start 3ds max and click file>reset and click yes. Then click on create> geometry > standard primitives> box, and draw a box in the "perspective" view port (picture 1 ).

Now we have to resize the box. At "parameters" put height: 10 , lenght : 45 , width: 30 and lenght, width, height segments : 10 (image 2)

The next step is to center our box. Select the box, select the move tool and RIGHT click on the move tool. A box will appear in wich you have to put 0 in all the cases ( picture 3)

Now we have to turn our box into a editable mesh. Right click on the box > convert to> editable mesh. (picture 4)

Now we have to clone the box. Select the box and the move tool and move the box while holding SHIFT. A screen will appear and you have to press ok. Now we have 2 boxes ( you should change the color of the second box to be easyer, but it is not necesary)
While the second box is selected, in the parameters tab put the lenght, width and height segments 1.
Now we have to move the 2nd box on top of the first. To do that select the second box, right click on the move tool and insert these coordinates : X: 0 , Y: 0 , Z: 10.
Next we turn the 2nd box into an editable mesh ( just like we did to the first box). Now select the vertex tool and select both corner vertexes(the blue points) on the same side (picture 5)

*The vertexes you have to select are the ones in the pink circle.
After you have selected the 2 vertexes, right click on the move tool and enter the folowing coordinates: X: 0 , Y: 0 , Z 20.0. Do the same with the 2 vertexes on the other side (picture 6)

Now our house should look like this :

The next step is of course a door. To do this we have to select the first box. Select the polygon tool and zoom in on the spot where you want the door to be. Draw
a straight line from the up to down ( use whatever length you want) and the selected polygons will be highlited with red. (picture 8, 9).
Now just press Delete on you keyboard and voila.

The house with the cut door should look like this:

Now let's apply the textures. I used
[11] and
[12] . To use theese textures, save them to your computer. now select the first box and press M. Clich on the first sphere and the click the button next to diffuse( blue circle)

Now doubleclick the bitmap button and browse for the first texture. Press open. Now press the " assign material to selection" button( blue circle) and then press "show map in viewport" (green circle).

Select the second box, press M, select the second sphere, do the same as abowe, but select the second texture. The finished, rendered house should look like this:
